Lonely is shopping for one. Products tend to come in sizes that meet the needs of couples or families. Lonely is throwing most of the loaf of bread away as you have nobody to share it with.
Lonely is enjoying shopping for the first time in your life because someone will talk to you even if it is just the woman taking your money and giving you your change.
Lonely is sitting alone trying to think of things to do to make the day pass. Lonely is missing the person who used to know the answers to the crossword clues you didn’t.
Lonely is turning to say something to somebody and seeing the empty chair.
Lonely is rolling over in the night and missing that closeness you used to have.
Lonely is why places like the community cafe I lunched in today are important. They have a special day where older people get a 2 course home-cooked meal for a very low cost. The environment is pleasant and friendly. Regular faces swap banter and newcomers are made welcome.
Such a simple service and a lifeline for the lonely.
Lonely is not easy. Lonely can be relieved by communities in the real world and online.
The Royal British Legion provides support to service people and their families (serving or former) including social outlets and intensive welfare support. Iwould love you to click on the badge #mums4good in my sidebar and join me in raising money for them via Give As You Live. This means when you shop online with well-known retailers, a percentage of what you pay will go to charity. It involves no extra cost to you and all you need to do today is to register for free with Give As You Live by giving them your name and email address.
If you would prefer to support another charity, please do still click on the badge in my sidebar and register. When you shop, you are able to select which charity you wish to support.
Don’t miss out on the opportunity to support a good cause. You have nothing to lose and they have everything to gain.
