Three Cars that Offer Reliability & Affordability for First Time Drivers

New drivers can’t wait to purchase their first car and join the roads, but it is important that you take your time to find the perfect car. For new drivers, reliability and affordability are huge factors as you will want a car that does not let you down and won’t require expensive repairs, plus you will want to keep costs down and particularly when you factor in how expensive insurance can be for young drivers.

With this in mind, here are three excellent cars for new drivers in terms of reliability and affordability:

Vauxhall Astra

The Astra from Vauxhall is one of the most common cars on the roads in the UK and this is a testament to its greatness. The Astra is their flagship car and one that has been in production since 1979 – this means that it is very well-built and reliable, even if you opt for an older model. The Astra is also affordable as it is a small family hatchback, so you can find it for very low prices from places like AA Cars. On top of this, the Astra is cheap to run too, which makes it an appealing prospect for budget-conscious drivers.

Hyundai i10

The Hyundai i10 is a small hatchback but also one that is very practical thanks to its 5-doors, so it is a good choice for your families or drivers who will regularly take a few passengers. It also provides a decent driving experience, it is very well equipped and has low running costs. Due to its small size, the i10 has a low price tag too and especially if you shop in the used car market. Another appealing aspect is that this can comes with a five-year warranty, so you should be able to find one still covered second-hand.

Although very small, the SEAT Mii is bursting with character and is a great choice as a first car. This is because its small size and the fact that it does not have a particularly powerful engine, but it is still good fun to drive and is able to return up to 64.2 mpg to keep running costs down. It also features a five-star Euro NCAP rating, so you know that this is a safe car that you can rely on too.

Choosing your first car is an exciting period, but it is important that you take the time to choose one which will not let you down and not break the bank. In terms of reliability and affordability, you cannot go wrong with the above three.

My first car was a 10 year old Vauxhall Nova. Back when I first started driving it was common for a 17/18 year old to be out driving these older cars. Nowadays I’m in a Vauxhall Zafira, I’ve had it 6 years and it’s now 10 years old! Feel odd that I am driving a car as old as the one was when I bought my first car.
