Heartache poem – in your pocket

Heartache poem

heartache poem

I slipped it in your pocket

I am not sure that you knew

For a while I saw it

But then away you flew

It went on great adventures

If what I hear is true

I tried to give it to others

But didn’t ask for it back

In a 20th century world

It was easy to lose track

And why be honest anyway

Behind the smart wisecrack

Is it still in your pocket?

Does it keep you awake?

And as you have it

Why is it me that feels it ache?

  1. I’m intrigued! I love the way this flows, telling the story and I get a real sense of heartache and wondering from it. Thank you so much for sharing with #ThePrompt and apologies for late commenting (again!). This time it was the storms – several snow days and then a falling tree branch took out our internet!!

  2. Wow, Kate – that is a really powerful poem! As the others have said, there is so much intrigue there… I read it through twice trying to figure out exactly what you were alluding to, and still came to the conclusion that what I imagine is probably more about my own interpretation of the world than yours. Thanks for joining in with #sharethejoylinky x

  3. What a beautiful poem, I automatically felt it was about your brother but also I thought of my own grampy, when he passed away I wrote a letter to him telling him my feelings about our relationship and how I felt that he had gone and my uncle put it in his coffin with him to be with him always. This really reminded me of that too. Kate your wonderful post is my favourite post linked up last week! #sharethejoylinky xo
