Saltrock are a family focused casual clothing brand with stores based around the south coast and a brand new website

saltrock

I was delighted to see their wide and affordable range of hoodies, t-shirts and kids ranges. If anything I worried that some of the prices might mean that their clothing was not good quality as I had not heard of the brand before.

It seems I have missed out as when I mentioned Saltrock to friends, they said their kids regularly wear Saltrock.

It has always concerned me that girls are so much easier to dress in a stylish way than boys. I have a teen son who really is not fussed about how he looks fashion wise but my 10 year old likes to rock a trendy look with attitude.

Ideal for playing out in the cold (without that coat he won’t wear!), Saltrock’s range of hoodies for boys come in sizes 2 to 13yrs. Designed for adventurous boys , colours are muted and perfect for getting a little bit mucky. Choose from zip through or pull over styles – all at great value so you aren’t worried sick as they play out about the money you have laid out in case of damage.

I made an online order of hoodies and sweatshirts and delivery was speedy and problem-free.

I was genuinely amazed at the lovely quality of the clothing received. In fact, I had received a package from another far more expensive store recently where the quality was not as good in my view.

The lovely folks at Saltrock are offering my readers exclusive discount code for your blog. This would you get extra 10% off your basket total. I hope you enjoyed my Saltock clothing review and make use of the following discount code KATEONTHINICE10 on their site.

Celebrity moms are always in the news and some of us aspire to be more like them.

Mums are individuals so some will want to follow a certain style icon whilst others will be inspired by celebrity moms who campaign for good causes. Do you admire a particular celebrity mom.

With Mothering Sunday just a few days away, I wanted to let you know about fun quiz from My Voucher Codes.

Looking at the photographs of moms on the quiz, I spotted Katie Holmes who is of course desperate to be just like me, her namesake. Are you most like Madonna, Victoria Beckham or the Duchess of Cambridge?

Are you super-organised or more laid back when it comes to parenting?

What would be the perfect Mother’s Day gift for you?

My result was Jennifer Garner which means I offer a strong and independent role model for my children. If anything I wish this was far more the case but moms have to work with what we have available to us.

I do have a strong work ethic and encourage my children to work hard to pursue dreams that matter to them.

Apparently I try to shield my children from the big bad world. I am very protective and I guess I home educate to keep my younger children away from bullying so that is probably spot on.

Enough about me. Take a few minutes to find out which celebrity mom you are like? You can discover your perfect gift just in time to whisper in someone’s ear just in time for Mothers’ Day.

Is it time to rest?

Today is 29th February and social media is telling us we have an extra day. I wonder what most mums have done with that day. My guess is that most will not have taken it as a day of rest. I imagine mums across the world doing their usual mix of juggling a whole heap of stuff – parenting, work, friends, partners, caring, commuting, running a business and housework.

I am on happy pills to treat depression. They keep me on a cheerful and happy keel. I am thankful for them.

One of the most important things they do is to ensure I rest when I need to. My body simply slips into a nap when it needs one. It might last 20 minutes or 2 hours.

I have an unproven theory that half the reason so many mums struggle with mental health issues is that they are frankly knackered. It makes absolute sense to me that sleep deprivation built up over the years of waking babies, poorly toddlers and gaming teens is bound to take a toll of the poor mums. Add in that in so many families mums still take on the bulk of the housework possibly combined with volunteering, caring for elderly relatives, being self-employed or keeping a job down and it is clear most of us need a day of rest.

People who know me say I am difficult when I am tired. So when I am on my happy pills, I get enforced rest and everyone is a winner.

So I cherish my magic moments which mean I sleep and am restored to my best.

What are the kitchen trend predictions for 2016?

Kitchen worktop specialists Mayfair Granite have compiled some of their predictions.

Large-format Flooring and luxury vinyl

Kitchen flooring is an important part of the kitchen design procedure which is often overlooked as people focus on cabinet design, appliances and lighting, but it can have a dramatic effect on the overall look of a kitchen.

Tiles have always been a popular choice for kitchen floors as they are hard wearing, easy to clean and available in a wide range of colours, and this year will be no exception. Mayfair Granite predicts that 2016 will see Large-Format tiles becoming even more popular; these larger tiles mean less grout lines leading to a much cleaner look, something that will be popular this year as sleek designs continue to be king.

Large Floor Tiles

Vinyl flooring has come a long way since the peel-and-stick stuff from the 1970s and will also be a popular choice this year. Luxury vinyl combines the high quality realistic look of hardwood or stone with the durability of vinyl making it a natural fit for the kitchen.

Striking Mum’s kitchen- For me what matters in the kitchen is that it looks great and is as easy as possible to keep clean. I love the idea of less grout lines. Currently I have some relatively new hardwood looking vinyl.

Colourful Cabinets

People have been trying to declutter their kitchen cabinets since they were invented. Over the past few years advances in technology and design now mean that every space is used to its full potential. From a range of clever storage solutions to adjustable shelving, you can have your kitchen built to your specific needs.

A big trend that will be popular this year is contrasting cabinets. Combining different colours, textures and materials into one room will give the overall design depth and produce an eye-catching and exciting space.

Open shelving is also predicted to be big in 2016, and why would hide your beautiful dishes, glasses and cookware away in expensive cabinets anyway. Open shelving can help to increase your storage options, increases the amount of light in the room and produces a sense of space, perfect for smaller rooms.

Colourful Cabinets

Striking Mum’s kitchen I have a very colourful kitchen and am pleased to see this is trendy. For me, we have given up colour far too easily in our homes losing that sense of individuality. I like to collect pretty kitchenalia and to display it. Anything that increases light in a home is a good thing for me.

Luxurious Worktops

Granite and Quartz worktops have always been a popular choice for the kitchen due to their durability and quality look and this year is no exception. Advances in production and cutting techniques now mean that granite and quartz worktops are more affordable than ever and can fit seamlessly into the kitchen with the minimum of hassle. Dark greys and blacks are trending right now, perfect for creating a luxurious look.

Granite 2

Striking Mum’s kitchen I have dark worktops. I think they always look better and it is great that they are coming down in price.

Colourful Sinks

Much like kitchen cabinets, sinks are trending away from basic white and stainless steel. The bright and vibrant colours now coming onto the market are a great way of adding a splash of colour to a neutral kitchen or to create an eye-catching focal point that really gives a kitchen that wow factor.

Striking Mum’s kitchen I have a boring kitchen sink and would love to inject some colour. I would probably choose something wacky like orange.

Pendant lighting and LED strips

Lighting is key to creating the right balance of ambience and function in the kitchen. Gone are the days of harsh strip lights and recessed lighting, 2016 will see the emergence of pendant lighting and under cabinet lighting.

Pedant lights can create a relaxing environment in the kitchen, while under cabinet lighting provides better visibility for tasks such as food preparation and chopping. Low voltage light strips are also a good choice for illuminating inside and above cabinets to create a dynamic effect.

Mayfair Granite - Pendant lighting

Striking Mum’s kitchen I love good lighting and under cabinet lighting is great. I have very standard lighting in our kitchen at the moment and it would be fun to experiment with some of the 2016 trends.

Bold Appliances

People rarely move beyond standard coloured kitchen appliances, tending to go safe with either white black or stainless steel. Bright, vibrant colours are bang on trend for 2016, allowing people to show off their individualism and their appliances in style.

Colourful Appliances

Striking Mum’s kitchen I love colour and the more striking the better. Purple and orange are particular favourites. I look forward to injecting some of the 2016 trends into my own kitchen.
