Craft beer by Melvin Brewing Company
Craft beer has always intrigued me. In certain pubs that I have loved over the years, people get very passionate about craft beer. If folks can get so worked up about anything, it is always worth looking into. My Dad used to make his own beer and I used to help him or hang around. The memories are distant but fond ones. I have always fancied having a go at brewing beer just like I have always wanted to keep bees Let’s face it with so many of us in lockdown, now is a very good time to look into things that intrigue us. We have time and space to do so. I am not sure my brother would like me to set up a brewing area in his home so perhaps I should look into deliveries of craft beer instead for now. My investigations led me to the Melvin Brewing Company.

Who Are Melvin Brewing Company?
The company has a fascinating and unexpected history having started in the back of a Thai restaurant in 2009. The founder Jeremy Tofte decided to bring beers from the future to his home town. Originally he stared with a 20 gallon brewing system. This quickly grew into a 3 barrel system and the company started to serve their award-winning beers alongside Asian street food. These included
- The original Melvin IPA
- 2×4 Double IPA
- Ch-Ch-Ch-Cherry Bomb – I love the name of this one!
Business growth
In 2015 the Melvin Brewing Company won the prestigioous Small Brewpub of the Year at GABF 2015. Following this they opened a 30 barrel production facility going on to win Brewing Group of the Year at GABF 2017. This is a company on the move.
Craft beer and personal taste
Whether you are a regular or occasional craft beer drinker, you will have an idea of what you like when it comes to taste. I can remember in my youth getting some respect for my ability to take quite strongly flavoured beers. They often had great names which was probably the main reason I ordered them. Old Peculier was just one of them.
