Home education – how it has changed my little girl

July 2014 after 3 months in her new school.

“I hate myself. I am a monster. I am useless at everything. I might as well just kill myself”

December 2014 after 3 months of home education.

“I am epic!. I am awesome!”

Same girl, different attitude and I love how she poses at the Imperial War Museum this week. So full of smiles and life.

I may not be the best home educator in the world but we are getting something right.

This makes me really smile to read this! Home ed is just brilliant and is just so right for some kids even if it ends up only being for a while like for us – it was just what my boys needed at the time. I went from having a stressed, angry, anxious little boy who transformed into a calm, happy kid when we started home-ed. I just met up for a christmas meal with the home-ed mums today and in so many ways I really miss it, but at the moment I know that school is working out for the boys and that is where they are happy right now. So good to hear this about your daughter xxx

ah this is amazing Kate, I love what it has done for her self esteem and shows that School is not always right for a child. Sometimes other children can be cruel, teachers can be dismissive. I shouldn’t say that as a teacher but in my time I have seem some uninterested teachers in High Schools. I am lucky both my Sons schools are family environments where the child is the priority. But I am also sadly aware that this isn’t the case for all families. I am so glad she has found happy education, it is a wonderful thing when it is right x

I’m so glad home education was the right step for you and your daughter. I admire anyone that takes this step. I really wouldn’t know where to start. It’s so lovely to hear when a child loves to learn.

You have to do what is right for your child and in your case you are definitely doing something right! A brave step but it’s worked for you all, it’s great 🙂

It seems as you definitely made the right decision. I spoke to another mom last week who took her girls out of the school where my daughters are. She is also home schooling and she says it is the best decision she and her husband made for their children. They are thriving and they take things in their stride. Good on you and you doing a great job.#fortheloveofBLOG

Oh wow – what a tale of success! As you know, my own little girl has been having a hard time at school at the moment and has been really down on herself. It’s very difficult to counteract the messages they are getting at school because they spend so much of their time there. I can certainly see how home educating helps to tackle this.
