While you may be used to throwing a bit of salt and pepper in a pan, it can be worth getting further outside of your comfort zone. You would be amazed at the difference it can make to your dishes.

This should go without saying, but to truly make the most out of any dish, you have to taste test. If something doesn’t seem quite right, you can always add in more of a particular ingredient.
For instance, if you think your food is too salty, a sweetener or acid can help counteract the flavor. Another example would be to add fat such as butter or sour cream if something is too spicy.
Season cold foods last.
Hot foods tend to hold their flavors much more than cold ones. Therefore, you want to wait until they are at serving temperature before adding any last touches.
You may find that things such as salad will require an extra pinch of salt or pepper before they reach the kitchen table. It’s a simple habit to get into that can take your culinary skills to the next level.
Know who you are serving.
Not everybody has the same taste buds, and how we react to certain things varies from person to person. For instance, someone who regularly eats spicy food can probably tolerate more than someone who hasn’t.
Have a glass of water or eat a bland cracker to cleanse your palate. It can also be wise to ask others for their opinions to be sure they will be happy with the final results.
