My teenage son has just left to live with my brother due to family circumstances. Empty nest syndrome is not easy to navigate but he has promised to keep in touch regularly. At the moment he does not have a job so we have looked at how to save money on your mobile phone contract. If you’re looking for some ways to save money on your phone bill here are some tips on cutting costs.
Save money on your mobile phone contract: Look at sim only deals
The first thing my brother suggested was to consider sim-only deals. My son already has a phone so does he really need some posh and expensive gear right now? I don’t think he does so I am pleased he is giving serious consideration to sim-only deals. Most sim-only deals work on a rolling monthly contract which means you can change your mind and are not tied in for months on end. Unless you desperately need a new mobile phone, think about a sim only deal. Most sim only deals are monthly rolling contracts so you have a convenient get-out clause should you wish to change your mind.
Do your research and keep doing it
As with so many items of expenditure, loyalty to a particular supplier is not always your friend. Whether you think it is fair or not, often the best deals go to new customers. It can be challenging to compare mobile phone deals but some sites can help you to compare things like data and minutes. It’s all about working out what you need for your individual circumstances rather than paying out for stuff you won’t use.
How much data do you use?
Numbers can be tempting when it comes to data but do you actually need what is on offer? I ask this as you can bet you will be paying for it one way or another. Check your current contract if you have one and see how much data you are currently using. That will help you not get persuaded to get more than you need. Always make use of Wi-Fi at home or in places that offer it for free.
Nobody really cares what you use.
Again I would always advise you to consider what you can realistically afford. After a few minutes nobody cares what type of phone you are using or what deal you have. They are far more concerned with themselves. So don’t keep up with the Phone Jones” and do what works best for you.
