Getting into embroidery during lock down

We are all looking for things to do during this lock down period. I have intended to get back to embroidery for some time. We did it at school and my mother taught me how to do it well. She used to embroider beautiful table cloths that came out for special occasions. I wish I still had them today. Embroidery is a craft that has stood the test of time and anyone can do it with a little practice.

Tools for embroidery

You need a needle and thread to get started. Ideally you have needles with different sizes of eye to allow for different sizes of thread. Then you can make good use of an embroidery hoop in plastic or wood. I prefer wood as that is what I had in my childhood.  A friend of mine uses plastic when she is working on embroidery and then a wooden one for display purposes. The hoop or ring comes in two parts and you put the fabric between the larger and smaller circles. You can choose when it comes to fabric from quilting cotton, linen, and canvas.  It helps to have a special pair of scissors. You are also advised to get a water soluble pen to mark out designs on your fabric. The next exciting step when you have your equipment in place is to choose a fun embroidery design to work on.
