How to Practise Self-Care with 5 Easy Tips

Today’s world runs at a frantic pace. Whether it’s work-related stresses and strains or juggling a hectic home life, time is short and burn out is often not too far away. Practising a helpful program of self-care and self-love is an easy way to let it all go and recharge those batteries. Here are my 5 easy tips to practising self-care in style.

1.     Lighting a candle

It may be unsurprising as I run my own candle company; I’m a huge candle fan!

There’s nothing quite as relaxing for us girls than lighting a candle and snuggling on the sofa.

Whether this is with or without wine, a candle can ease the mind and body after a long week.

2.     Staying at home and relaxing

Gone are the days when we feel pressure to be out socialising all the time. The times they are a-changing, as Bob Dylan once said.

There’s so much self-care we can do for ourselves in the home. Whether this is listening to music, snuggling down into the sofa for our fix of Netflix, or applying a lovely face mask; pampering and the home go hand in hand.

Here’s a handy little infographic on staying at home activities for total relaxation and stress relief.

3.     Self-care and getting into nature

While self-care in the home is amazingly effective, connecting with nature is a must.

Getting out into a green environment, such as a park or the countryside, is amazingly good for us.

Breathing fresh air and getting into the great outdoors are some of the best self-care activities we can do.

Even if you aren’t very mobile, caring for plants or animals indoors will also provide great physical and emotional benefits.

4.     Keeping physically active

Some of the times when I feel best in life are when I’m quite physical. Exercise releases many feel-good chemicals.

Research shows that physical activity can also boost self-esteem, mood, sleep quality and energy, as well as reducing our risk of stress and depression.

Regular exercise doesn’t have to be very strenuous or sporty to be effective, either.

Gentle walking, yoga or swimming are easy to squeeze in activities to practice self-care with ease.

5.     Inspirational self-care quotes

Sometimes, I think a great way to gain some perspective on life is to think about some famous quotes about self-care.

Words can inspire and change a mindset. Here are some quotes that can help us take a kind approach to ourselves

“Love yourself first, and everything else falls in line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.” Lucille Ball

“Breathe. Let go. And remind yourself that this very moment is the only one you know you have for sure.” Oprah Winfrey

“Beauty is how you feel inside, and it reflects in your eyes. It is not something physical. Sophia Loren

I think exercise is the quickest way to shift your mood. I also think smell but not a candle person – I buy this ridiculously priced conditioner when I can or this beautiful (but also over priced) laundry detergent so all my clothes smell of bergamont and jasmine – and then I just sniff deeply when I need a lift….#StayClassyMama

I love these simple tips. There is something mesmerising about the flame on candles. I particularly love a scented candle.
I’m glad socialising is a thing of the past at the moment because that’s tiring. Quiet time on your own is the way forward. #StayClassyMama
