Reset And Recharge This Winter

It’s funny how our attitudes and habits can change with the seasons. Summer is all about movement, making the most of the long days and spending as much as time as possible outdoors. It goes by in a flash, which is why winter, with its dark evenings and quieter days, feels much longer. Both bring something different, and both are important for our health and wellbeing.

While you may be longing for those summer days, it’s important to see winter for what it is – the chance to rest and recharge. See the colder days as an opportunity to slow down and take care of yourself, embracing the change to help you make the most of the season. Explore how you can reset this winter and enter the spring feeling refreshed and ready to pick up the pace once again.

Craft a different kind of routine

Many people thrive in the summer months. The early-morning sun makes it easier to get out of bed and start the day, allowing you to be active, tackle the washing and everything else you need to do. Winter can be a little different, but it doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Create a routine that works for you, whether that’s a cup of tea in bed or a walk that happens later in the day – whatever gives you that healthy balance. An early night tucked up warm in bed can bring pure comfort and joy, so make the most of it while things are a little quieter.

Enjoy comfort food that’s good for you

Winter is the perfect time for home cooking, and you can’t beat a little comfort food when it’s cold outside or when you’re feeling under the weather. Put a healthy spin on your favourite comfort foods, enjoying all of the goodness that will keep you nourished during the colder months. If you’ve got a slow cooker, try batch-cooking some flavour-packed dishes to store for later – you’ll be glad you did when you come home from the cold and just want to relax.

Change up your fitness routine

They say summer bodies are built in winter, but that’s not easy to abide by when you’d rather stay in bed than get up for your 6 am gym class. While you may not feel as active as you did in the summer months, you can still maintain a strong fitness routine, but at a different pace. Switch your workouts to a time you know you can stick to, whether it’s a lunchtime session or post-work class before you settle down for the night. There are a lot of ways you can make exercise in cold weather enjoyable, and perhaps even discover some new ways of getting fit.

For the ultimate winter activity, consider adding a Yin Yoga session to your routine. Yin is about slow, controlled stretches, and can be the perfect way to unwind before bed, helping you feel cosy and relaxed.

Swap nights out for nights in

Even the most social of butterflies can find themselves ready to hibernate in winter. Instead of braving the cold and the rain to see friends, why not invite them over instead? From self-care Sundays to cheese and wine nights, you can enjoy socialising in more relaxed ways – helping to save money and avoid battling the cold and rain that’s typical in the UK at this time of year! It’s also ok to say no to social invitations if you just want to stay in and relax instead.

Slow down and enjoy the rest

The summer months can feel go-go-go, so slowing down during the winter can feel uneasy. But it’s important to remember that slowing down is a good thing – our bodies need to rest and recover. It’s also perfectly natural to do less in the winter – the lower levels of sunlight and cooler temperatures will have that effect on our bodies.

Use winter as an excuse to enjoy the rest. Get yourself some new bedding for a luxurious bed, add a sleep silk mask and maybe even a hot water bottle for hygge vibes. Aim to get your 8 hours a night and who knows, you might just change your sleep habits for good.

Winter can feel very long if you spend it mourning the summer months. Embracing the season for what it is – a time for self-care and a rest – can help you see things in a different light. Enjoy building a winter routine that works for you, and get ready to start the new year fresh and ready for what’s next.
