Mid-October Sunday Reflections

Just over halfway through October feels like a natural pause point. The month is far enough along that patterns are emerging, but there is still plenty of time left to make positive changes and build momentum. This week has reminded me that progress is rarely a straight line. Sometimes it arrives in encouraging statistics. Sometimes it comes through setbacks that reveal new insights or opportunities. And sometimes it comes through long-awaited movement on things that seemed stuck. Here are my Mid-October Sunday Reflections after a mixed week that was positive on the whole.

Mid-October Sunday Reflections

  • My blog views have just about doubled this month along with a satisfying number of visitors. Thanks to everyone who finds themselves here. You are so welcome and remember if you have a story to tell, I can share it for you on this blog. Don’t forget to leave a comment so I know I am not talking to myself, share on social networks via the sharing buttons at the end of each post and all likes are appreciated too.
  • I have done some financial planning this week. My income is just mine so it feels liberating to manage my own money when partnerships made this challenging in the past.
  • I chased a personal independence claim that I made in early June only to be told by the Department of Work and Pensions that my case had “fallen through the cracks” and wasn’t sent for assessment. How infuriating after my long and patient wait. It inspired me to blog about what to do when a government agency lets you down.
  • My hip pain has come on again. I think it might be triggered by colder weather. I quickly bought a heat wrap which is helping. I am exercising more and shared other tips on coping with hip pain to hopefully help others.
  • I visited a fantastic community organisation once again reminded how so many good places do not receive the funding or volunteering input they deserve. You can call it the third sector if you must but our voluntary and community organisations keep our country going. I am always happy to promote good causes in my Charity Spotlight.
  • A couple of business women shared their stories with me including top tips for small businesses run by women. Watch out for interviews with them very soon. If you want to promote your business, do not hesitate to reach out to me.
  • I discovered panacalty for the first time this week at Glady’s Vintage Tea Room.
  • I visited the library to get The Paris Library which is my new book club selection of the month. Whilst there I was invited to an author event taking place next weekend and a true crime group.
  • I have felt loved and supported this week. My brother helped me in lots of ways, my young adult son and daughter shopped for me. I had an online chat with my stepdaughter which is always a joy. A kind man chatted to me on the phone for over a hour when I was feeling a little glum.
  • I am feeling tired tonight after a wonderful day out with my daughter to the much maligned Middlesborough. It is a town with problems but has warm and friendly people, beautiful buildings and lots of things to do. Today I saw Hadestown which was superb. How lovely to be treated by my wonderful daughter. to the show, a hot dog and a Mocha.
  • Did I mention I love watching Ted Lasso with my younger son and watching him connect via gaming with my lovely older son currently living in Devon?l

Recalibration is my word of the week. That’s not about giving up on goals. It is about checking whether our plans, expectations and energy levels still align with what we need right now.

Looking back over the first half of October, I have seen reasons for optimism. My blog continues to grow beyond the targets I set for myself. New opportunities have appeared on the work front. Long-delayed processes have finally started moving. Most importantly, I have been reminded that perseverance often pays off, even when progress feels frustratingly slow.

My reflection this week is simple: success is not always about pushing harder. Sometimes it is about pausing, reassessing and choosing the best direction for the journey ahead.

I’d love to encourage you to take five minutes today and reflect on your own October so far. What has shaped your days during these first few weeks of the month? What moments have brought encouragement, joy or unexpected progress? What achievements, however small, are you proud of? And as you recalibrate for the weeks ahead, what would you like to focus on, nurture and carry forward into the rest of October? 🌿

I’ll be back next Sunday with another 11 October Sunday reflections. Until then, be kind to yourself, celebrate the small wins, enjoy taking a break for your elevenses and remember that every chapter of life has something to teach us.

What would make your own list of mid-October Sunday reflections this week?

Every woman carries moments that shaped her. If you feel ready to share one of yours, you’re welcome to add it to my What’s Your Story? space — a gentle corner of the internet where real voices matter.
