Things to Prioritise Before the End of September
There is something about the closing days of September that makes me want to reset. The lovely madness of summer has faded, the darker evenings are creeping in, and October is waiting just around the corner with its promise of cosy blankets, comfort food and the opportunity to dance through colourful Autumn leaves. Before we rush into savouring the joys of October, here are 11 things to prioritise before September comes to an end.
11 Things to Prioritise before the end of September
1. Celebrate How Far You’ve Come
It’s easy to focus on what still needs doing, but take a moment to recognise your wins.
Whether you’ve grown a business, survived a difficult season or simply kept showing up when life felt tough, that deserves acknowledgement. You are amazing.
Progress is progress, even when it feels small. Baby steps added together transform your life.
I am celebrating major blog growth and allowing myself to express more vulnerability in personal relationships.
2. Tidy Up Digital Clutter
Sort those downloads, organise your photos, clear your inbox and close the tabs you’ve had open for weeks.
A cleaner digital space often leads to a clearer mind.
I may be writing this down here so that I actually do it. I should tackle my desk too.
3. Spend Time Outdoors
The changing colours of autumn won’t wait forever.
Take a walk, visit a local park, sit by the coast or simply enjoy a hot drink in the garden. Nature has a way of helping us slow down and notice what’s important.
I have noticed I don’t make enough of living by the sea. How we women can postpone our own pleasures whilst making sure our loved ones are OK.
4. Review Your Goals
What did you hope to achieve this month?
Look honestly at what’s working and what isn’t.
Sometimes success comes from adjusting a goal rather than pushing harder towards the wrong one. I have chased opportunities recently and then realised I don’t actually want to pursue them. Focus on the thing that will bring you more happiness on your own terms whatever the world has to say.
5. Prepare for the Final Quarter
October marks the beginning of the final three months of the year.
Think about what you would love to accomplish before December arrives and identify one or two priorities that will make the biggest difference.
6. Reach Out to Someone
Send the text. Make the phone call. Arrange the coffee.
This might mean being a little vulnerable. That’s OK.
Relationships often thrive through small acts of effort rather than grand gestures even when you don’t have the words. In fact, particularly then just to make it clear you care.
7. Make an Appointment You’ve Been Avoiding
Whether it’s the dentist, optician, doctor or something else you’ve been putting off, future you will be grateful that you dealt with it now.
A family member put off an optician’s appointment only to discover when they finally did got that they need a referral to an eye hospital.
I commit to making an appointment for my flu jab tomorrow.
8. Create a Cosier Routine
As the evenings become darker, a comforting routine can make a real difference.
A good book, a favourite candle, a warm drink or simply switching off screens earlier can help make the transition into autumn feel gentler.
I love this season for tasty soups and cosy blankets. How about you?
9. Take Stock of Your Finances
September is a great time to check your spending, savings and upcoming costs.
Check whether you are entitled to any welfare benefits or grants on sites like Turn2U and Lightning Reach.
A little planning now can reduce a lot of stress later, particularly as the festive season starts appearing on the horizon.
10. Finish One Lingering Task
We all have that one thing hanging over us.
The form that needs completing. The cupboard that needs sorting. The email that needs sending.
Choose one and get it done this week.
I am celebrating finally clearing out my understairs cupboard of doom.
11. Make Space for Something You Enjoy
Not everything needs to be productive.
Read for pleasure. Watch a favourite film. Bake something. Visit a friend. Sit with a cuppa and do absolutely nothing.
Life isn’t only about ticking items off a list. It’s about the memories and the moments.
I resolve to sit on a bench and watch the waves every day. I also intend to visit the theatre more.
Final Thoughts on Things to Prioritise before the end of September
As September draws to a close, I’m reminding myself that a good month isn’t measured the perfection peddled by peer pressure and social media channels. It’s measured by growth, resilience, lessons learned and the moments of joy we managed to find along the way.
The last few days of September aren’t about cramming more in. They’re about finishing the month intentionally and stepping into October feeling a little lighter, calmer and more prepared for whatever comes next.
What is one thing you’ll be prioritising before September ends? 🍂☕✨
