Ways of getting rid of rats without use of poison

Although rats are no longer considered vermin in most parts of the world, their reputation is not entirely positive.

Not only do they have the ability to chew through cables and wires, but they also transmit diseases.

That’s why many homeowners and business owners have switched to rat-proofing their properties with various rat control equipment..

That said, there are several other ways to get rid of rats without using poison. Here are a few:

Prise Off Their Nests

Rats will often find a place to feel safe and make a nest there.

It can be anywhere in your home, at the base of your leaky pipes, in your dryer vent, or it may be at the bottom of your garbage disposer.

If you find that rats are using your kitchen, try prising the bottom off the range hood or unplugging the power box to create a void underneath.

You should then cover up the entrance hole with something that rats cannot fit through so that they cannot get back in again.

Once you’ve done this, you have to seal up all holes with some metal mesh or plastic netting to keep them out.

Get rid of any food sources

If you suspect rats are living in your attic or crawlspace, seal up any openings that provide access to food sources like pet food or birdseed.

You may need to hire a professional to help you with this step, but once you’ve done so, you can kill the rats yourself.

Use Traps

The most common way of getting rid of rats is through trapping them. This is an effective method that does not require rats to be poisoned.

You can either set traps in the places where you see rat activity or bait them with food sources like meat, cheese, or taffy.

Furthermore, if you think the rats might have gotten into your attic or walls, try baiting the traps with cheese.

The mice will then explore the trap and eventually fall inside it, allowing you to get rid of them quickly.

You can also use live traps as another way of controlling rats. Put the trap in an area where rats frequent and make sure it has a hole in one of its sides that allows you to place bait inside it.

Bottom Line

Poison is not the most humane way of getting rid of rats. There are ways to get rid of rats without poison.

But you can kill them yourself. A rat trap can be set for rats, especially inside your house, garage, basement, and attic.
