When Life Keeps Knocking You Down
Life is very rarely smooth sailing. We all suffer setbacks at one time or another – some more than others. So, what are you supposed to do when you feel like life just keeps on knocking you down? Developing resilience and knowing how to handle this feeling is crucial. Below there are 10 things you can do when you feel like life keeps on knocking you down.
- Accept What You Feel
Trying to push away what you really feel will only end up in disaster. You need to learn how to accept what you feel. This means feeling it without hanging on to it, and letting it pass when you’re ready.
- Accept What You Can’t Change
There is no point dwelling on what you can’t change. Accept things you have no control over.

- Be Gentle With Yourself
Make sure you’re as gentle with yourself as possible when you’re going through a hard time. Change how you speak to yourself, and make sure you do nice things for yourself. It’s time to be your own best friend. Talk to yourself like you would a best friend and make self care a priority.
- Evaluate Your Options
Assess where you went wrong and think about what you can do differently. Evaluate your options and see if there’s anything you can change.
- Give Yourself A Break
Maybe you could take a mental health day from work, or just take a day doing nothing at all. You can’t always work through your to-do list at 100 miles an hour. Resting is important.
- Find Things To Appreciate About Where You Are Right Now
Think about how far you’ve come. Find things to appreciate, no matter how simple they may be.
- Connect With Others
Make sure you prioritize connecting with others. Don’t lose touch with your family members and friends. If one of the reasons you feel down is because you have lost somebody close to you, looking for gravestones can be tough, so confide in somebody else and ask for help. Other people can help you to get through a rough time.
- Practice Habits That Will Set You Up For The Day
There are all kinds of habits that will help to set you up for the day. Develop one at a time and see how you feel. Start the day by drinking a pint of water, do 20 minutes of exercise each morning, and always make your bed. That’s just an idea!
- Speak To A Pro
If you feel like you really need to get your thoughts and feelings out there, speak to a pro. A counselor, therapist, or life coach may be able to guide you in a more specific direction and help you to gain clarity.
- Laugh More
Spend time with people who make you laugh. Watch funny films and read funny books. Do everything you can to spend your time laughing.
Don’t let life keep you down – do the above 10 things and you’ll feel back to your old self soon enough.

Very good points Kate! I find that going for a lovely walk can do wonders, as can catching up with good friends for a laugh (even if you really don’t feel like being social!). #TwinklyTuesday
