What Style Of Bra Is Right For Me?

There are so many different styles of bra out there to choose from – but just which type of bra is right for you? By understanding the different styles and their benefits, you can help to find a bra that makes you happy. Below are just some of the different factors to consider when choosing the perfect style of bra.
Wires
First, you need to consider whether an underwired or wireless bra is right for you. This comes down to whether support or comfort is more important to you. Underwired bras are recommended if you have larger breasts as they can support them and prevent back pain. Many push-up bras also use underwires – if you have smaller breasts and want to add more volume, you may find that an underwired push-up bra has the most impact. Wireless bras won’t offer the same support, but can be more comfortable for many women as you don’t have a wire digging into you.
Padding
Padding in a bra can help to add volume and comfort. However, too much padding may cause discomfort and make the breasts look unnatural. A greater amount of padding is typically better for smaller breasts, whereas less padding is better for larger breasts. Different bras may have padding in different places – push-up bras tend to have lots of padding underneath, while maternity bras may have more padding around the nipple to reduce soreness.
Coverage
More coverage can mean more support – however such bras may not suit all occasions. If you’re wearing a low cut top and you don’t want your bra cups to show, you may want to look into bras with less coverage such as these stylish balconette bras. If you’re doing a physical activity or you simply want to stay modest, a bra with more coverage may be better suited. Sports bras typically offer a lot of coverage to prevent uncomfortable movement.
Straps
You should also consider the straps. Traditional straps over the shoulders tend to offer more support and are recommended in most situations. If you’re wearing an off-the-shoulder top, you may not want your bra straps to be visible, and so a strapless bra may be better. Low strap bras can meanwhile be useless when wearing backless dresses. Just be wary of the fact that both strapless and low strap bras offer less support and so generally shouldn’t be worn for long periods. Those with larger breasts may even be better off avoiding them altogether.
Colour/print
Finally, it’s worth considering the different types of colours and prints available. If you’re wearing a light shirt and you don’t want your bra to show through, a nude toned bra is always the best option. Black and red bras typically have a bolder and more sexy look, while white bras can have a more innocent look and won’t draw as much attention when peeking above a low neckline. Of course, there are also many other colours and patterns to play around with – choose more unusual colours/patterns to match your personality and preferences.
