Why Is Self-Care So Difficult

Why Is Self-Care So Difficult?

Self-care is a term you will definitely have heard of before, but although it’s important, it might also be something you have ignored. You’re too busy, too responsible for other people, too focused on other things to even think about taking care of yourself, whatever that really means.

This is how a lot of people – especially women – feel, but it’s the wrong way to think. Self-care is all about making sure you’re in the best possible place, both physically and mentally. If you can do this, everything else in your life, from your family to your career, will much more easily fall into place.

Yet because we don’t think about self-care in this way, it can often be difficult to put into practice. Read on to find out why this is and what you can do about it so that you can incorporate self-care into your life.

Guilt

There are some people who you can always count on. They are always ready and willing to help. It almost seems to be in their genes to go the extra mile to help a friend or family member in need. Now, this isn’t because they have nothing else to do or don’t have a lot going on in their own lives. In fact, they are busy almost all the time because their guilt makes it hard for them to say no.

Does this sound familiar? If so, you need to learn how to say no sometimes. If you want to help out, and you can, then great, but if you are tired or busy with your own things or you just need some time to yourself, saying no is important. It will be hard, but it will be worth it.

You Think Self-Care Is Selfish

Self-care can be especially hard if you are the caretaker for other people who depend on you. You might have to take care of an elderly or sick family member, be the go-to person for someone who is always in need, or even be a parent.

Because of this, you may feel like your own needs don’t matter or that it’s your job to be the caretaker and make sure everyone else is okay. In reality, you have as much right to be cared for as anyone else, and if that means self-care, so be it. Taking care of yourself doesn’t take anything away from anyone else’s experience, but it will help you meet your need to also take care of others because you’ll have the emotional and physical strength to do so.

You Don’t Ask For Help

As someone who is always willing to help and take on the worries of those close to them, it’s not often that you feel the need to get help for yourself. There could be more than one reason for this. First, you might feel like you’re a burden and don’t want to make anyone else worry. Second, you may have been disappointed in the past when you asked for help but didn’t get exactly what you thought you needed at the time.

However, if you need help, you must ask for it, whether it’s help getting your possessions to your storagearea.com unit, you need someone to take the kids to school so you can rest, or you just need someone to talk to, help can come in many forms. Imagine how wonderful it will feel to get that help.
