World Mental Health Day – 11 little reminders

If you’re reading this on World Mental Health Day while feeling stressed, overwhelmed, exhausted, or just a bit fed up, you’re not alone.

Life can be wonderful, but it can also be messy, complicated and tiring. Most of us are carrying more than other people realise. Sometimes we’re juggling work, family, money worries, health concerns, caring responsibilities, or simply the pressure of trying to hold everything together.

So today, instead of offering complicated advice, I thought I’d share 11 simple reminders partly because I feel so tired after a full on day yesterday.

1. You don’t have to earn a rest

Rest is not a reward for finishing every task on your to-do list. You’re allowed to rest because you’re human.

2. Asking for help is a strength

For years many of us were taught to just “get on with it”. Sometimes getting on with it means knowing when to reach out.

3. Social media isn’t real life

People usually share the highlights. Try not to compare your behind-the-scenes moments to someone else’s edited version.

4. Small wins still count

Got out of bed? Made a phone call? Sent an email you’ve been avoiding? That’s progress.

5. You are more than your productivity

Your worth is not measured by how much you achieve in a day.

6. It’s okay to have bad days

A bad day doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means you’re human.

7. Fresh air helps more than we give it credit for

A ten-minute walk won’t solve everything, but it can make the world feel a little less heavy.

8. Boundaries are not selfish

Protecting your time and energy is not letting people down. It’s looking after yourself.

9. Connection matters

A text, a chat over a cuppa, or a catch-up with a friend can make a bigger difference than we realise.

10. Progress isn’t always visible

Sometimes the biggest growth happens quietly, behind the scenes, when nobody else can see it.

11. Be kinder to yourself

You would probably offer more compassion to a friend than you do to yourself. Maybe today is a good day to change that.

One Last Thought

World Mental Health Day is important because it reminds us that mental health matters every day, not just once a year.

If you’re having a good day today, that’s wonderful.

If you’re struggling, that’s okay too.

Take a breath. Make a cuppa. Do one thing at a time.

And remember: you don’t have to have it all figured out.

Be proud of how far you’ve come, even if today all you’ve done is keep going.

Every woman carries moments that shaped her. If you feel ready to share one of yours, you’re welcome to add it to my What’s Your Story? space — a gentle corner of the internet where real voices matter.
