Sunday Reflections: 11 Things That Stuck With Me This Week
Welcome to the first of my Sunday reflections.
Life moves so quickly that it’s easy to rush from one week to the next without stopping to notice what we’ve learned, achieved, worried about, enjoyed or simply survived. So each week, I’ll be sharing 11 Sunday reflections from my week. Some will be light-hearted, some thought-provoking, and some deeply personal.
My hope is that these posts encourage other women to pause for a few minutes and reflect on their own week too. What made you smile? What challenged you? What are you learning about yourself as your life continues to evolve?
Sunday reflections
Here are this week’s 11 reflections.
- My neurodiverse daughter is starting university on Monday, and the nerves are beginning to kick in now. It’s a big step for both of us.
- This week I learned a new meaning of the word “elopement”. The reasons behind that lesson were so tragic. Oh and instead of judging families who face challenges you don’t, how about learning more about difference and neurodiversity and offering support?
- I’ve changed. A certain gentleman took a rain check this week and, instead of getting emotional about it, I simply got on with having a positive day.
- Why don’t all employers do what organisations like Re-engage do? Upload your CV, let the system automatically fill in your education and employment history, then ask genuinely job-specific questions. It would help everyone, but especially those not in education, employment or training.
- Sometimes you have to choose which family member needs your attention most. That’s okay. It doesn’t mean you care about anyone less.
- I’m really enjoying blogging at the moment. Views are increasing, new readers are arriving, and I’m grateful for every one of you. Thank you.
- When was the last time you checked your bank statement properly? This week I spotted a payment and realised I wasn’t entirely sure what it was for. Food for thought. Please tell me I’m not the only one who doesn’t keep track of every penny 100% of the time.
- When people treat us shabbily, it can sometimes open doors to new opportunities. Their behaviour says far more about them than it does about us.
- The weather has been lovely. My seaside town is full of people making the most of it, and watching them brings me joy. So does my rather wonderful sea view. A dream achieved.
- My thoughts are with friends navigating cancer. It can be tough to know what to say to someone with cancer but let them know you care.
- When I lost my husband and then faced an increasingly empty nest, I was heartbroken. People told me it was simply a new chapter and that one day it could even be a positive one. I didn’t believe them. Yet here I am, building a life that suits me, in a home styled to my taste, spending many days doing my own thing. There’s actually quite a lot to be said for solitude and for discovering who you are once the children have flown the nest.
Writing these reminded me that even the most ordinary weeks contain lessons, surprises, shocks, moments of gratitude and opportunities for growth. Sometimes we achieve something significant. Sometimes we simply get through a difficult week. Both deserve recognition.
I’d love to encourage you to take five minutes today and think about your own reflections from the past seven days. What stood out? What are you proud of? What do you want to carry forward into next week?
I’ll be back next Sunday with another 11 reflections. Until then, be kind to yourself, celebrate the small wins, enjoy taking a break for your elevenses and remember that every chapter of life has something to teach us.
What would make your own list this week? ✨
