Small Changes To Make To Be Happier

Who doesn’t want to be happier and healthier? If you want to make a life change for the better, there are several things you could do to get there. It’s not too hard once you understand your choices and are willing to make some changes. This list is sure to put a smile on your face and a spring in your step.

Help Others

It can be easy to forget that others need our help too. When we give to others, we get a sense of satisfaction that can come from anything else. Think of a time you were there for someone and you will remember how good that felt. Make this idea of helping others part of your regular routine. You will give a life change to two people; yourself and the recipient of your help.

You can also make giving genuine compliments a part of your daily routine. This will improve your own mood and it is a nice thing to do for others.

Eat, Drink, And Be Merry

All of these should be done in moderation. If you can’t moderate your intake, you may need addiction treatment

Endorphins are easy to manufacture. You can make more if you drink a glass of wine, eat dark chocolate or eat spicy food. Tea can help too. Ginseng makes you feel happy, and green and white tea are healthy. Green tea is also a great antioxidant. It does a great job of cleansing your systems and it gets to work on calories too. Try to drink less coffee and swap your habit to herbal tea instead. You will feel a lot better for it.

Wake Up Earlier

Getting up half an hour earlier than you need to can help you to feel a lot calmer, more in control, and a lot happier. Staying ahead of things means you will avoid the rush and be a lot less stressed. Practice this every day and ultimately you will be happier and healthier.

Spend Money On Experiences

Spending money on items doesn’t make you happy. You might feel pleased for a short amount of time, but what will really make you happy is to spend your money on experiences. Book yourself a day trip to somewhere fun or beautiful, instead of spending money on stuff.

Laugh, Cry, And Get Intimate

There are three surefire ways to release endorphins, which will lift your mood in no time.

Crying can actually make you feel good. It makes sense when you think about it, as we know that holding in tears makes us feel worse. The relief of letting it all out will make you feel better afterward, so don’t hold back the next time you feel like crying. Laughter makes you feel much happier too.

We already know that sex is good for your health, as it is good exercise, but it’s also good for your mood too!

Drink Almond Milk

Almond milk has a lot of great benefits, whereas dairy milk can cause a lot of issues in your body. Avoid dairy and use almond milk as a replacement instead. Your skeletal and cardiovascular systems will both benefit and you will have better skin. This is a small life change that will make you feel happier.

Smiling releases endorphins which will improve your mood.

If you put a pen horizontally between your teeth for a few minutes, you will be forced to smile and your mood will improve. This could be an immediate fix for you if you need a bit of a lift.

A good trick to use here would be to get out an old photo album and look through it. You will be smiling so much at your memories, you will be feeling happier in no time.

Surround Yourself With Happy People

Our habits and moods rub off on one another. People are pretty impressionable on both a psychological and energy level. If you are in a group of happy people, you will feel happier too. Choose the company you keep wisely, and your mood will go up.

Breathe Properly

When you get stressed out, your breathing can become shallow. Anytime that you notice that your breathing has sped up and become shallow, stop what you’re doing and take a deep breath. Hold this breath for a second, and let it out slowly. Repeat this a few times and your breath will naturally slow down on its own. You will feel more relaxed and renewed after this breathing exercise. It’s good for your lungs, your digestion, your circulatory system, and for managing your stress.

Expose Yourself To Humor

Just like your choice of company, be careful about the other things that you are exposed to. Watch something funny on TV, read funny books, and listen to happy music.

Write A List

Write a list of ten small things that you want to do in the next month. This could be anything, like visiting a new town, adopting a dog, or having brunch with your best friend. It’s up to you. There are lots of potential adventures out there, both big and small, so get out there and have some fun.

Change Your Sleep Routine

Go to bed at the same time every night and get up at the same time every morning, even at the weekend. A good sleep routine will make it easier to sleep, so you’ll have more energy, look better, and feel more alert. Aim to get eight hours of sleep a night whenever you can.

Make A Connection With Something Bigger Than Yourself

Connecting with something bigger than you, whether it’s religion, nature, the universe, or a community group, is a great way to bring some more happiness into your life.

Get involved in a group of some kind, whether it’s religious, spiritual, volunteering, or getting involved with your community. There is always very positive energy in doing something like this, especially if you can combine it with helping others at the same time.

What an uplifting post! I always feel better for waking up earlier and I get a little bit of extra quiet time before the zoo wakes up! x

What a fabulous list of things to help you feel happier. I didn’t realise that almond milk was so beneficial. Watching something funny is a great way to make yourself feel happier. #MMBC
